Cultural Exchange
The Alliance has hosted two fundraising events at the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C. to acquaint medical and pharmaceutical companies as well as key health care providers, with the goals and accomplishments of the organization.
Four children’s performing groups from the Novgorod Oblast have been sponsored at the International Children’s Festival at Wolf Trap Farm Park in Northern Virginia.
Two Alliance members have had photography exhibitions and numerous Alliance members have given musical concerts in Velikiy Novgorod. A three-day photography master class for Novgorod children was sponsored by the Alliance and presented by several members.
The Novgorod Alliance hosted a visit by Russian First Lady Naina Yeltsin at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and later visited Mrs.Yeltsin in Moscow.
The Alliance sponsored and chaperoned dancers from the Northern Virginia Ballet Company, the Christina Heimlich Dancers, and four local artisans at annual cultural festivals at Vitaslavlitsy in Novgorod.
The Alliance worked with the Novgorod Medical Alliance to sponsor the renovation of the Rachmaninov Cultural Center in Velikiy Novgorod. Two young Virginia musicians participated in the Rachmaninov Festival.
Two groups of teenage dancers from Northern Virginia have traveled to Velikiy Novgorod to participate in local festivals and to take dance performance classes with Russian teachers.
Four Virginian artisans participated in an annual Velikiy Novgorod Festival and gave small workshops at various locations.
In 2004 five US artists had an exhibition at the Novgorod Museum of Fine Art. Besides visiting artists’ studios, they also taught classes in their media to children at two locations. Four Velikiy Novgorod artists visited Sarasota Florida in 2006. They exhibited their work at Art Center Sarasota and Longboat Key Art Center, taught classes and visited artists’ studios.
