ACCOMPLISHMENTS SINCE NOVEMBER 1992

Sponsored sixteen trips to Velikiy Novgorod for medical, educational and cultural exchanges

Sent fourteen containers of humanitarian aid through the US State Department Program – value estimated at $1.3 million – 1994 – 1996

Sponsored thirteen Novgorod physicians to visit Northern Virginia and Inova Health System for medical education

Established E-mail communication with Velikiy Novgorod – 1993

Chosen to be part of the NASA Telemedicine Program – Inova Fairfax Hospital hosted two seminars between Moscow and four sites in the United States – 1994

Coordinated the participation of four Novgorod Region children’s performing groups in the International Children’s Festivals at Wolf Trap Farm Park in Virginia – 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998

Organized and accompanied an exchange visit to Velikiy Novgorod of fourteen Virginia Ballet Company students and two craft artisans (quilting and basketry);  all participated in numerous demonstrations and performances – 1994

Became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization – 1996

Organized and accompanied fifteen members of the Christina Heimlich International School of Dance, Falls Church, Virginia for an exchange visit and performances in Velikiy Novgorod and the annual Festival at Vitaslavlitsy – 1997

Donated medical educational materials: journals, books and training manuals in Russian and English – ongoing project

Initiated a pen pal program between children in Velikiy Novgorod and Virginia -1993-94

Hosted visit of Mrs. Niana Yeltsin to Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children in 1994 and had a personal visit with her in Moscow – 1995

Consulted with administrative staff of the Moscow Medical Academy – 1995

Member, Judy Kramer, had three photography exhibitions in Novgorod 1996, 2000 and 2004 and she taught a three-day Master Class in Photography for children in Velikiy Novgorod – 2000

Two young musicians, Carlos Ibay (piano) and Brendan Conway (violin) participated in the Rachmaninov Piano Competition and Festival in Velikiy Novgorod – 2000

Held two fundraising events at the Russian Embassy, Washington DC – 1993 and 1999

Funded a pediatric clinic program for underprivileged children in Velikiy Novgorod – 2000, 2001 and 2002

Co-sponsored and participated in a two-day medical seminar on Ophthalmology in Velikiy Novgorod –   May 31 – June 2, 2001

Two artisans (wire-wrapping and quilting) from Northern Virginia participated in the annual Festival at Vitaslavlitsy in Velikiy Novgorod and gave numerous small workshops – June 2001

Co-sponsored and participated in a one-day medical round-table discussion on International Children’s Health topics in Velikiy Novgorod – June 2, 2002

Celebrated 10th anniversary of  Novgorod Alliance’s ongoing humanitarian, educational and cultural exchanges in Velikiy Novgorod, Russia – June 1-9, 2002

Donated funds and a computer to help establish a private pediatric clinic in Velikiy Novgorod – 2002

Funded a special project for graduating children from Internat (Novgorod Children’s Home) – 2001-2002

Received a Certificate of Commendation from Fairfax County, Virginia, Board of Supervisors       October 7, 2002

Established a two-year scholarship for postgraduate medical training – Recipients in 2002, 2004, and 2006

  1. Must graduate at top of class from Novgorod State Medical Institute
  2. Have financial need
  3. Have command of English language
  4. Commit to work in their field of study in Novgorod upon completion

Hosted visit of five doctors from Velikiy Novgorod, representing the Novgorod Medical Alliance, for seminars in private medical practice and community health – October 4 – 14, 2002

Celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Novgorod Alliance at a brunch at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Virginia – October 13, 2002

Presented a conference on Pediatric Oncology in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2003

Presented a Nursing Conference in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2004

Presented a conference on HAZMAT procedures (David Smith, RN)  that are used in the United States to personnel at main Ambulance Station in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2004

Set up an artists’ exchange for five US artists who displayed Sculpture, Fiber, Printmaking, Watercolor  and Photography, taught classes to children at two schools and visited artist’s studios in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2004

Sponsored a Preventative Medicine Conference (Cardiovascular topics) in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2004

Coordinated a photography exchange between children in Velikiy Novgorod and Sarasota High School, January – March 2006

Co-sponsored artists’ exchange of four artists (Printmaker, Painter, Fiber Artist, Basketry Weaver) from Velikiy Novgorod in conjunction with the Art Center Sarasota, Florida. Artists had an exhibition at two art centers, gave lectures, taught classes, visited artists’ studios – March 1-14, 2006

Participated in International Conference of Orthopedic Surgery in Velikiy Novgorod – Hip and Knee Topics -September 2006

Donated a Linvatec Arthroscope to the Novgorod Central City Clinical Hospital – September 2006

Donated $1.5 million (estimated value) of medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals to the community of Velikiy Novgorod – 1992 – 2007

Established a six-week training program for a Pediatric Orthopedic physician from Velikiy Novgorod with the Shriners International. Dr. Dmitry Lobko spent four weeks at Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, Florida, one week at private orthopedic practices in Sarasota, Florida and one week in the Orthopedic service at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida - March – April 2007.

Dr. John Moor, Orthopedist, and Dr. Roman Rozin, Orthopedic Radiologist, from Sarasota, Florida conducted a two-day Orthopedic Round Table Conference with Orthopedic physicians in Velikiy Novgorod – October 2007.

Judy Kramer invited to participate in a one-year traveling photography exhibition with Alexander Orlov in Velikiy Novgorod and three other cities from 2007 – 2008.

Dr. Eugene Magonov, radiologist and previous scholarship recipient, visited Sarasota for  advanced training in October, 2008.

George Long, MD participated in a joint Russian/American conference “HIV/AIDS – Diagnosis and Treatment” in September 2009.

Lloyd Kramer, MD presented a talk on “Hand Washing Techniques” at 2 conferences.

Mark McDowell, Cardiovascular Technologist, presented a lecture and participated in a conference “Acute Coronary Syndrome” in September 2009.

Four Suncoast Florida artists, Joanna Coke, Susan Cooper, Susan Covert and Judy Kramer participated in an artists’ exchange project with six Velikiy Novgorod artists. The Exhibition “West Meets East: The Faces of Art” was held from September 14 – 20 at the Novgorod University – Antonovo Campus and the Artists’ Union on the grounds of the Desintinney Monastery. The participating ten artists came together for a Round Table Conference “The Challenges of Being an Artist”. Each US artist taught Master Classes to children at the Childrens’ Palace for Creative Activity. The US artists also visited several Novgorod artists’ studios.

FUTURE PLANS INCLUDE:

1.  Continuation of  the Medical Postgraduate Scholarship

2.  Continuation of medical exchange visits between physicians of the US and Velikiy Novgorod, Russia

3.  Continuation of cultural exchanges between people of the US and Velikiy Novgorod, Russia
